Secret to a Rewarding Retirement? KEEP WORKING!!!

That’s right folks, the good people of CNBC wrote an article saying just that! As a matter of fact, a quote from the article tells us, “Recent data from the Employee Benefit Research Institute showed that nearly 80 percent of workers say that they’d like to continue working after retirement.” Uh? WHAT did you say? 80%? As in 4 in 5 people would like to WORK after retirement? Did I mention that is a four letter word in my dictionary? Yeah…I am absolutely stumped by this article…from a financial news network of all places. Here is that actual article link:

I have quite a bit more to say about this, but my fabulous wife will be home shortly, so I am going to wrap it up for now. But never fear, I *will* offer my opinion on this fluff piece shortly!

So, What Exactly *IS* Fired Life?

Greetings All! Fired Life, eh? What is that you ask? Well, you clicked on the right link! Well, there is a relatively “new” phenomenon out there in the world that is called “Early Retirement.” Perhaps that is what brought you here, maybe something else, who knows. At any rate, there are quite a few blogs out there that give lots of good information that can be useful in achieving early retirement. Of course, one key point is that in order for *most* folks to retire early, you must be financially independent; where you aren’t relying on someone else (most likely an employer) to pay for everyday living. So, the realm is often referred to as being “FIREd” or Financially Independent (FI) and Retired Early (RE). So…there you go. Now, what is *my* role in all of this? Well, if you were to Google “FIRE Early Retirement” you will come up with all sorts of blogs and other websites that will give you lots of ideas and stories about this subject and well, I am just adding my .02 worth. Sure, some of you may not give a flying fart what I have to say, and that’s OK; it’s more of a journal for me anyway…I would like to be able to go back and reflect on my journey of being FIREd. So, what is *my* story? Well, that’s for another post. Long story short is that in 2014, I retired at the age of 40 and it’s been the BEST time of my life! I am not really sure how I can summarize what it’s like except that I would compare it to those wonderful summers that I enjoyed as a child. BUT…without those pesky parents telling me what to eat and when I have to come home! Most mornings I wake up with not much planned but yet I go to bed only accomplishing half of it…it’s a very odd thing. Alright, so that’s the basic gist of what’s going on here. I do have some hope that perhaps I will have some ideas that you might be able to use, give some inspiration for those that are still working the salt mines (and as of today, you will see that four letter word as w*rk…I refuse to spell it out) to “get there” a little faster or just give you a laugh once in a while. For the time being, the blog won’t be monetized, so you can enjoy an ad-free experience. That alone is reason enough to come around once in a while!

Hello folks, just a very quick “hello!” before I get this thing up and running. I have had a couple of snafus since getting a blog up and running, but it looks like I have alleviated most of the issues. SO….that means I should be back shortly to tell you a little about myself and what this blog is all about. Until then… -FL
